How to Upload the Google Search Console Verification File Using cPanel Print

If you're verifying your website with Google Search Console, one of the recommended methods is uploading an HTML verification file to your website's root directory. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do this using cPanel.

Step 1: Download the Verification File from Google

1. Go to Google Search Console.

2. Click "Start Now" and log in with your Google account.

3. Click “Add Property”, and enter your full domain URL (e.g., https://yourdomain.co.za).

4. Choose the "URL prefix" option.

5. Google will present different verification methods. Select “HTML file upload”.

6. Click “Download the file” (it will be named something like googleXXXXXXXXXXXX.html).

Step 2: Log In to cPanel

1. Go to our Client Area at: https://clients.websitebuilder.net.za/index.php/login

2. Log in with your registered email address and password.

3. Once logged in, click on “Services” from the main menu or dashboard.

4. Click on the active hosting service linked to your domain.

5. On the product details page, click the “Login to cPanel” button—this will take you directly into your cPanel account without needing to enter separate login credentials.

Step 3: Open the File Manager

1. In cPanel, scroll down to the Files section.

2. Click on File Manager.

3. Navigate to the public_html directory – this is your website's root folder.

Step 4: Upload the HTML File

1. Inside the public_html folder, click the Upload button (top menu).

2. In the upload window, click Select File and choose the googleXXXXXXXXXXXX.html file you downloaded earlier.

3. Wait for the upload to complete, then go back to File Manager.

✅ Ensure the file is now visible in public_html (e.g., public_html/googleXXXXXXXXXXXX.html).

Step 5: Verify the File Is Accessible

1. Open your browser and go to:

    

   https://yourdomain.co.za/googleXXXXXXXXXXXX.html

2. If you see a page with just a line of code (Google’s verification string), it means the file is accessible and you're ready to verify.

Step 6: Complete Verification in Google Search Console

1. Go back to the Google Search Console tab.

2. Click “Verify”.

3. If everything was done correctly, you’ll get a success message confirming ownership.

Tips:

• Do not delete the HTML file after verification — Google may periodically check it.

• If you're using WordPress or a website builder, make sure it doesn't overwrite or remove files in the root folder.
