How to Install WordPress in the Root Folder Using WordPress Manager (Softaculous)

If you'd like to power your main website with WordPress (e.g., https://yourdomain.co.za), it's important to install it in the root directory, also known as public_html. This guide will walk you through the process using WordPress Manager by Softaculous in your cPanel.


Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Log In to cPanel via Client Area

  1. Go to our Client Area and log in.
  2. Click on “Services” and select your hosting package.
  3. Click the “Login to cPanel” button.

 

Step 2: Open WordPress Manager by Softaculous

  1. In cPanel, scroll down to the Software section.
  2. Click WordPress Manager by Softaculous.

 

Step 3: Begin the WordPress Installation

  1. Click the “Install” button (usually near the top right if no installations exist).
  2. Fill out the installation details as explained below.

Step 4: Configure Installation Settings

  • Choose Installation URL:
    • Choose Protocol: Select https:// (recommended if SSL is active).
    • Choose Domain: Select your domain (e.g., yourdomain.co.za).
    • In Directory: Leave this field empty. This installs WordPress in the root folder.
  • Site Settings:
    • Site Name: Your business or website name.
    • Site Description: A short tagline. Can be edited later.
  • Admin Account:
    • Admin Username: Choose a unique, secure name (avoid "admin").
    • Admin Password: Use a strong password.
    • Admin Email: Enter a working email address.

 

Step 5: Click “Install”

Click the Install button at the bottom of the page. Softaculous will begin installing WordPress. This may take a few seconds.

Step 6: Access Your WordPress Site

After the installation is complete, you’ll be provided with:

  • Website URL: https://yourdomain.co.za
  • Admin URL: https://yourdomain.co.za/wp-admin

Log in to the admin area to start building your website!
